About

Hello, my name is Lancelot Chu. I am a recent graduate of UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music, earning a B.A. degree in Music Performance, with a concentration on the saxophone. Throughout my four years, I became involved in various genres of music - within and outside of school. I have performed in Wind Ensembles, Chamber Ensembles, Classical Saxophone Quartets, Big Bands, Jazz Combos & Small Ensembles, Afro-Cuban ensembles, Video Game Orchestras, Pit Orchestras for Musicals, World Music ensembles, Pop/Funk bands, Indie/Alternative bands, Hip-Hop groups, and Afrobeat/Reggae groups. I am also a local music teacher in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. I teach students of all ages and levels saxophone along with preparatory Music Theory and ear training for the Music Teacher's Association (CA) test. These experiences have been very enriching for me and have allowed me to keep an open mind. To me, music is more than just a clutter of notes on a piece a paper. It's a form of self-expression that gives the individual the ability to play music the way they see fit. While I teach fundamentals and standard exercises, I also encourage students to learn tunes they want to play so they can challenge themselves and build a personal connection with music. Through these experiences, I hope that I can re-apply what I've learned for your benefit.

    • Lance is patient, knowledgeable and easy to understand. I appreciate him very much. Learning to play the saxophone is a lifetime goal, I am 77 and decided I’d better get started.
