Answers to your questions about the Tutorfly Marketplace

FAQ's

How can I make sure my tutor or client is safe?

We believe that safety is a shared responsibility. While Tutorfly does conduct safety checks, we highly recommend that you conduct your own background research as well. This may include criminal background checks, an introductory video call, and/or asking for references. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable with a tutor or client, please notify us immediately.

The National Sex Offender Public Website
Reports from this check include sex offender registry data covering all 50 states, and including the District of Columbia and US territories. This search is subject to state limitations, availability and applicable reporting limitations, and may not reflect an individual's entire sex offender history.

In addition, we recommend checking your state’s sex offender registry online.

How can I be sure that a tutor is a good match for my student?

You can search through available tutors yourself, or email the Tutorfly Team at [email protected] to request a personal recommendation for a tutor. We do our best to recommend tutors who are empathetic, knowledgeable, and creative when working with younger students.

What if I do not want to meet up in person with a tutor or client?

We have an Online Lesson Space to facilitate virtual tutoring sessions if users prefer this online option.

What should I do if I am interacting with a user that makes me feel uncomfortable?

Please report any and all suspicious behavior to our Tutorfly Team immediately. Our users are always welcome to reach the Tutorfly Team via email at [email protected] to ask for additional help in investigating the authenticity of users on the platform.

Does Tutorfly employ any tutors?

We do not directly employ any tutors. We provide customer service and build web and mobile apps with a variety of features to facilitate the initial and ongoing connections between tutors and tutees on our platform.

Is the payment processing secure?

Yes. We use Stripe’s payment processing on our site, which is by default PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliant, and we are at no point in time allowed to see your credit card information. The information is immediately encrypted when you hit the add button and Stripe handles storing that data and future charges. Stripe's Website

How is the PII (Personally Identifiable Information) handled on the site?

We protect both our tutors and our parents by not releasing anything more than names until both parties agree to exchange information. We don’t share any private user information with outside groups.

Who are your tutors?

Tutorfly Tutors are high school and university students that are academic tutors as well as role models. They have gone through our four-step vetting process, which includes:

  1. A GPA Verification
  2. Further Vetting and Situational Testing for Creativity, Empathy, and Knowledge
  3. Video Interview Submissions
  4. Pre-Tutoring Preparation

Where are tutoring sessions held?

Tutoring sessions can take place either in person at a public location that’s mutually beneficial for both parties, or online through the Online Lesson Space (video chat tutoring portal). Tutors and clients should communicate via Tutorfly’s messaging portal to come to an agreement on a time and a place, before scheduling sessions. If minors are involved in a tutoring session, a parent/guardian must be present.

Is tutoring only available for high school students?

Tutorfly Tutors can work with all students, whether they are prepping for an upcoming exam, a standardized test, or just want to get ahead! Parents of younger students use Tutorfly because our tutors double as role models as well as academic tutors, and can instill good academic and behavioral habits from a young age. A big benefit of finding a local Tutorfly Tutor is that he/she may have already succeeded in the exact classroom setting that your student is currently struggling in.
